Hi there, lovely reader! It´s been a while since I wrote anything here, but I will try to become more active in the future. The reason why I chose to pick up the blog again, is a terrible event that I was witnessing this morning, and I felt like I just had to write something about it. My most active readers will know that I like to take long walks in the city, which is Aberdeen for those that are new here, and this time I have something devastating to tell you.

Because of exams, I was off school today so I decided to take a longer walk than usual. After about an hour of walking, I suddenly saw black smoke coming up from a building some blocks away from me. And because of my curiosity, I decided to check out what it was.

When I got there I saw the Victoria Road School burning. It was a little crowd around there, watching the old school burn. I was about to ask if someone had called the firefighters when I heard the sirens. Six fire engines rapidly came to the site. I witnessed the firefighters struggling to put out the fire. After about half an hour standing there watching, the roof of the school suddenly collapsed. And from that point, I lost faith in the firefighters and decided that I had stood there long enough, so I went home.

I thought it was sad that Victoria Road School god so badly damaged because we had learned about the historical building in school. The old school was actually built in 1878, and was famous from surviving airstrike bombings in World War II.

I wonder what could have started the fire. I hope there was no one in there, though I doubt it because the school shut down long ago, and the building was abandoned 11 years ago. When I came home I couldn´t stop thinking about the fire, and I checked all the newspapers for information. There I learned that the firefighters had gotten control over the fire and much of the building is possible to save.

The weird thing is that this incident is very similar to the Notre Dame fire in Paris some weeks ago.
Both were really old buildings and the roof of both of them burned down, although I must admit that the Aberdeen fire was a little smaller. Both of these incidents were horrible, I kind of think it was cool in some weird way.

  1. Love how you connected similarities with the Notre Dame fire, that made it much easier for me to imagine what really happened. Great writing by the way:)
