Oh man!

Helping my father out at the bar

Hey guys! If you didn’t know, my parents run a bar called “The Thin Whale” near where we live. The bar is the most popular one in all of Inverness. So, if you’re walking down the road in Inverness, you are very much likely to come across it. There is a lot of people there. Every single weekend, people come as flocks ready to make themselves drunk as hell in the bar. One ale, another ale, a third ale, and so it continues. I can relate though. My father brews the finest ale you’ll ever get in Scotland. I always wondered how he became so good at brewing. I don’t know much about my father’s studies. I am not that kind of a curious person. But what I do know is that he took a chef education way back then. But, enough about my father. He doesn’t deserve too much brag. The point is that there is a lot people there. Most of them are drunk.

My father asked me to help him out on Saturday. Usually my mother helps him out, but she had others plans that weekend. And, I had nothing else to do. So, there I stood. Washing empty tumbler glasses, cleaning tables, listening to drunk 50-year-olds. I was just trying to be a good lad. So far everything was going so well. I could smell the extra pound my father was going to give me. But, suddenly, one man came to me. I haven’t seen him before. He was obviously drunk. He started to touch my body while he was mumbling something. Another man stood up from the table shouting him to stop. The angry man came towards us and told the man touching me to stop once again. He wouldn’t stop. Then the angry man punched the other man right in the face. And just by that, a fight was happening right in front of my eyes.

Luckily, my father came in just in time, and stopped the fight. He kicked them both out of the bar immediately and everything become normal again. What an evening! I mean, the regular life of a bartender, I guess.

  1. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! It's a real shame that people know no boundaries, and really unfortunate that a bartender would experience that much more frequently than most others.
