My house was robbed!

Grace O´Connor here, and I was brutally robbed yesterday.

I came home from school and at first, I noticed the window was broken and the door was wide open. I carefully entered my house and the first red flag was that the dresser in the hall had all its drawers open and there were things thrown on the floor. Several other drawers were messed with, and the TV was gone, so I immediately called the police and later my mom. While waiting for the police to arrive, I decided “investigate” further. I walked upstairs to find all of my mother´s jewelry gone, my dad´s watches and all my cricket trophies. Other than that, our safe with some extra money was opened and empty. After seeing all that, I quickly walked outside and saw some of my neighbors coming towards me. They told me that they already had seen my house broken in, right before I came home from school, so they had already called the police. My mom and dad came home as quickly as they could, and the police came shortly after my parents. Later that day the police were able to catch the burglar because of witnesses (the other neighbors) and security cameras. 

It was a serious and scary incident for me because I´ve had nightmares about being robbed since I was a little kid. The robbery being real kind of traumatized me because of all my former nightmares. I talked to my friends about it and they agreed that it was scary, especially since I´ve dreamt about a lot. It really helped talking about it with my friends because they were very understanding. One of my good friends offered to let me stay at their house for a couple of days, since I´m scared of being in my house at the moment.

On the other hand, this incident really helped me to be more aware of this cruel world. My parents and I are actually going to a self-defense class soon and we´re about to install a better security system in our house. My parents and I never thought that incidents like this would actually happen, but it does. We have to be more careful and aware, so it´s important always have a good security system and always have in mind that the world is a cruel place where anything could happen.
